The North Carolina Downtown Development Association, the NC Mayors Association and the NC Metropolitan Mayors Coalition have submitted a joint letter of support for the continuation of the federal historic tax credit (HTC ) to US Congress Members Senator Richard Burr, Senator Thom Tillis, and Representative George Holding. The letter was also signed by mayors of small and large cities from across North Carolina.

The HTC is the cornerstone of a long-standing and successful national policy of promoting the reuse of historic buildings to catalyze economic development and create jobs across North Carolina. Between 2002 and 2016, the HTC helped finance the rehabilitation of 653 commercial properties in North Carolina, leveraging more than $1 billion in total investment.

The NCDDA Board of Directors would like to encourage other organizations and individuals to continue outreach to the United States Congress in support of the HTC. The historic tax credits play a very important economic development role in our communities and we would appreciate your continued support of the credits.
